AORTIC is the only pan-African non-governmental organisation dedicated to cancer prevention, control and palliation and survivorship. Our growing membership from all sub-regions of Africa convene biennually at the AORTIC conference and the AORTIC “breaking science” meetings. Between alternating annual in-person meetings, we support with virtual educational courses and webinar series in partnership with international cancer organisations. We offer research grants through our flagship initiative BigCat and support emerging leaders through the African Cancer Leaders Initaitive.
Our members also convene on a wide spectrum of cancer key issues defined by Special Interest Groups, which include advocacy, working alongside civil society organisations and people with lived experience, to generate resources for our members, the media and policymakers.
Formed in 1983, AORTIC looks back on 40 years of history. Governed by an Executive Council representing North, Central, East, Southern and West Africa we strive to unite the Africans active in the cancer field, build capacities to make a positive impact and share best practices across the continent as well as engage globally on the policy stage at the World Health Assembly, United Nations and other channels.
