Young African Leaders in Oncology

YALO-SIG is a group made of AORTIC members under the age of 45 years. The group brings together young researchers and clinicians from different countries and different oncology subspecialties.

YALO-SIG represents the interests of young AORTIC members from different oncology disciplines. It provides a platform through which these young AORTIC members develop research, scientific and leadership skills. Additionally, YALO-SIG provides a platform for young leaders to develop different research collaborations with in the Africa.

Broad Objectives

  1. Integrate the interests of young AORTIC researchers, innovators and clinicians within the AORTIC broad objectives.
  2. Promote and advocate for the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the management of cancer patients on the continent.
  3. Create a broad-based platform for networking and collaboration amongst Young AORTIC members.

Specific Objectives

  1. Encourage and promote active involvement of young AORTIC members in AORTIC activities.
  2. Assist in easy transitioning from training to practice for young members of AORTIC.
  3. Facilitate research training and access to grants.
  4. Facilitate access to oncology training opportunities for young members.
  5. Promote Mentorship programs within AORTIC.

Activities

YALO-SIG committee will design different sessions and events dedicated to young AORTIC members attending the bi-annual AORTIC Conferences. These sessions will be educational and cover different topics that are relevant to young clinicians and researchers in Africa and beyond. These sessions will include the following;

  1. Young African Leaders in Oncology Education Day
  2. Young African Leaders in Oncology Mentorship Session
  3. Young African Leaders in Oncology Networking evening
