Cancer Genomics Special Interest Group

Goal

Development of Federated African Cancer Genome Atlas for improved cancer control on the continent and drive inter-country research and training partnership among African cancer investigators by strengthening research funding and improving political will to support cancer genomics research on the continent.

Aims

Promote cancer genomics research in Africa through a genomics educational session during the AORTIC biennial meetings and an annual special issue in a reputable journal or AORTIC journal.

Explore the integration and coordination of virtual repositories under the auspices of AORTIC.

Coordinated through the leadership of the genomics working group, active seeking of funding for training aligned with the key objectives.

Key Objectives

Build and consolidate networks across Africa and partnership with non-African senior cancer genomics researcher for training and research exchange.
Encourage digitization of biobanking and development virtual repositories to publicize the biospecimen available across the continent.
Advocating for curricula to include or emphasize cancer genomics in medical and biomedical training programs in African institutions
Promote the establishment of genomic diagnosis and genetic counselling services at oncology centers across Africa.
