AORTIC is open to partner with organisations that share the same aspirations and goal to improve cancer care and outcomes for cancer patients in Africa. Our two flagship partnerships African Cancer Leaders Initiative (ACLI) and BigCat are exemplars for the type of long-term joint activities we are seeking to enrich the opportunities available to the AORTIC membership.
These may be non-financial in nature, a mutual coming together of expertise the address a key issue such as our work with Bioventures for Global Health (BVGH) focused on building cancer knowledge for primary healthcare or these may be funding an AORTIC-led program, with the partner contributing expertise and strategic support, such as the new project with Roche Pharmaceuticals focused on Africa-centric information, education and communication materials for the public, media and as a start, women at risk of or living with breast cancer.

AORTIC-IARC partnership
ADVANCING CANCER PREVENTION, RESARCH AND EQUITABLE CANCER CANCER ACROSS AFRICA
On the sidelines of the IARC 60th Anniversary conference (May 2026), IARC and AORTIC signed a memorandum of understanding, marking a stepchange in the relationship. Advancing cancer control in Africa requires strong and sustained partnerships, built on shared expertise and the common purpose of accelerating the implementation of impactful, evidence-based cancer solutions. This partnership will inspire through sharing knowledge, building stronger collaborations and increasing capacity in African countries to reduce the national cancer burden, and improve outcomes for communities across the continent.
Objectives:
- Develop stronger ties between leaders of both organisations
- Establish the IARC-AORTIC webinar series
- Building on the IARC-AORTIC roundtable at AORTIC 2025, explore closercollaborationsin support of young African researchers
- Explore development of the African Code Against Cancer

AORTIC-IGCS-ACHA partnership
JOINING FORCES TO CHAMPION ELIMINATION OF A CANCER FOR THE FIRST TIME ACROSS AFRICA
The International Gynecological Cancer Society (IGCS) is a global network of health professionals spanning all disciplines related to gynecological cancers. Their education and capacity building offers can support individuals and also national implementation at program level. IGCS launched the ACCESS symposia series with the ACCESS Africa symposium in November 2025 in Cape Town. The 5-year project has the vision that all high burden countries will have a cervical cancer elimination strategy that is being implemented by the year 2030. The African Cervical Health Alliance (ACHA) is a network of civil society and community-based organisations dedicated to policy change and engagement of people with lived experience in support of cervical cancer elimination. This partnership brings new perspectives to AORTIC members, facilitating learning from successes and failures of early implementation and showcase the trailblazer efforts of African countries already taking action to eliminate cervical cancer.
Objectives:
Bring cancer researchers, health professionals, health advocates, and civil society organisations together to take joint action on advocating for national cervical cancer elimination strategies and their implementation.
Establish a platform for sharing best practices on information, education and communication to the public and girls and women of eligible age on HPV vaccination, cervical screening and treatment of cervical disease and early detection and prompt treatment of cervical cancer.
